The day is finally here, time to see if the issues are resolved on the 451 Stroker Big Block Mopar for 73ChargerChic after Bob McVay of McVay Automotive has worked on it. This time, it's not going to be running with the cast iron "Motorhome Heads" though, now it's coming back to life with a brand new set of Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads!

A little bit of back story for those not familiar with this build and her 1973 Dodge Charger. The block is a 1976 400 big block or late B Series for all you Mopar folk, think of it as the not so great last generation of the 383 Big Block Mopar. Stuffed into the freshly bored block are an OE 440 Mopar crank shaft and matching 440 rods, topped with a set of ICON forged pistons. With the modifications made to make that rotating assembly fit in the B block it should spin well and make some good power numbers. Unfortunately on the initial build, it just didn't.

The issues we discovered after the top end teardown were a couple fold, the two most significant being the compression being considerably lower than we had initially spec'd out and a coil bind issue due to the use of 1.6 rockers on a high lift camshaft. Unfortunately with the original cast iron heads on the motor they were limiting the amount of lift, the initial camshaft specs were made with a 1.5 rocker. Now with the new aluminum heads able to support more than .650 lift we won't have that issue. Also we took this opportunity to drop the combustion chamber size by cutting down our brand new heads moving compression up to just shy of 10 : 1, not quite as high as we had hoped but should still give us some solid gains.

With all that said, it's time to get this purple monster fired back up! After more than 2 years since the initial engine build was begun, it's finally time to see what this thing can really do! If you are familiar with our Big Block Wars video, yes this is that same motor just with all the "issues" resolved.
