Extracurriculars for UBC Medical School in Canada ft OkayKaaay

Описание к видео Extracurriculars for UBC Medical School in Canada ft OkayKaaay

What extracurriculars should you do to get accepted to medical school? A Canadian UBC medical student (UBC Class of 2024) shares her premed extracurriculars:
Volunteering / Community Service
Leadership
Jobs / work
How to balance working three jobs with studying and extracurriculars
What is a reasonable number of hours a week to work as a student
How to find student-friendly jobs
General Principles to Choose Extracurriculars
Finding your Extracurricular Niche

-😎 There is no set formula of extracurriculars to follow! You don't need to follow what any other med student did because you may have different interests.
- 💪 Do you what enjoy as long as you work hard to excel at everything that you get involved in. No half-hearted effort. Full beast mode only
- ❤️ It's more about what you learn from your experience about yourself, the world, other people, and medicine, rather than the number of activities than you do. Think about how this experience can help you grow as a person
- Depth of involvement and the richness of your experience is way more important than the number of activities you do.
- Try to do a variety so that you can grow in different ways. For example, I think learning to be a better leader is important but learning to be a good follower/team member is an unrated but equally important skill to develop.

🤩 Some ideas to get you started:
#Healthcare volunteering e.g. in a hospital
Community Service - advocacy for causes that you are passionate about, mentoring
Leadership e.g. become a Teaching Assistant, Residence Advisor, the president of a student club or association
Research e.g. Research Assistant, Directed Studies. Commonly asked question: Do I have to do research? Nope!

This is not an extensive list. If you can think of something original that you love to do, go for it! 😍 Offer help to that organization or an initiative by your friends or classmates that could use your skills.
