Review of the Summer Session and introduction of the courses for the Winter 2024-25 Session which chronicles the last kings of Israel and the beginning of their Babylonian captivity. We will review the lives and actions of these kings and hear from the prophets as they delivered messages of both doom and hope.
Jeremiah (Yirmeyahu), whose unpopular messages of judgment and their need to repent caused him to be persecuted, banished and threatened by those his message was meant to rescue.
Daniel (Dani’el), a young man sent to Babylon as a captive and served as an adviser to the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar and then to the Persian king, Cyrus, who conquered the Babylonians. His message was to proclaim Yahweh’s sovereignty over all, even foreign countries and proclaim hope to the captives that Isreal would be restored one day.
Ezekiel (Yechezk’el) prophesized to the captives in Babylon during the same time Jeremiah was prophesizing to the Judeans. Their message was similar as he spoke of Yahweh’s judgement and their need to repent. He was also shown many visions of the heavenly realm which he tried to convey to the people about the connection of their behavior and their worship to Yahweh. He encouraged them with the message that they would return to Judah, with a new temple, a renewed land and restored relationship with Yahweh.
