In the first week of February a very high tide coincided with stom force winds from the South East driving up the water levels by more than a metre. The result was flooding in the lower part of the town and damage to the Goatwalk, a favourite route for walkers around the town. Topsham quay has flooded in the past (1950s and 1964) and Dan Trout remembers holding off boats that threatened to float onto it. Recent flood prevention schemes that have worked in the past were overwhelmed.
