Rae Cottam is a proud Wangkatha woman from the Western Desert, born on Noongar country. Rae attended Oxfam Straight Talk in 2015 and came back in 2018 to support the event as an alumnus. Rae's currently serving as a Rockingham City Councillor where she is continuing to advocate for better outcomes for her community.

"I’ve always been heavily involved in the community, I’ve always consulted with my peers, my Elders, and try to bridge the gap in the community of things that are missing especially for young people my age " Rae told Oxfam when she sat down recently for a chat.

2021 marks ten years of Oxfam's Straight Talk program with over 800 women having gained insight and exposure to Australia's political system. While the connections made have brought a support network and fostered collaboration. Or, as Rae puts it "the sisterhood of the Straight Talk women is such a sacred, strong, and powerful place to belong".
