Join D’n’A Ventures as we explore Big Wash Canyon near Grand Mesa, Colorado. This 2 mile, out and back hike leads you into the heart of a canyon. Hikers can expect to see sheer book cliffs, a gentle flowing stream, waterfalls and opportunities to see wildlife such as hawks, eagles, mule deer, big horn sheep maybe even the elusive mountain lion. This hike is rated as easy due to the lack of elevation gain however, the terrain can be challenging when passing over some waterfalls and around boulders. This hike can be easily reached from the Grand Junction area and provides great levels of respite from crowds in the Grand Mesa area. This hike is great in any season, we took our adventure in late winter and saw some cool frozen waterfalls and natural ice sculptures. However, be mindful of rain, not just in the immediate area but in the surroundings areas as well. A wash this size can fill up quickly with the potential of flash flooding, things can get dangerous fast. There is no signage at the trailhead. The trailhead is a pull off along scenic byway CO-65, it can easily be missed so we suggest using a GPS to find the trailhead. This hike provided us with a lot of solitude and is therefore a great addition to any itinerary in the Grand Junction or Grand Mesa area.
