I love to restore antique piano parts and save them when possible. Hammer shanks, however, I prefer to replace when I see such a break. In this particular situation, it is important to my client to preserve every original part of their piano mechanism and not to use new parts. Simply gluing the part would only work for a little while and will end up breaking again. To make sure the repair outlasts the piano I had to insert new wood into the shank and restoration went perfectly well
