Jacob Austin Hikes, 31, of Onsted, died Nov. 6, 2024, in a shootout that left one Jackson Police sergeant wounded, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Police say Hikes led police in a chase through Jackson, throwing pipe bombs from his van, and firing at police. No residents or bystanders were injured in the shooting, police said.
