SCRAP BIN CROSSBOW. Can I build a crossbow from scrap? Part 1.

Iron. Beech. Elm. Can I build a crossbow from firewood and scrap iron? Using a fire wood log, a trashed elm bow stave and some old scrap-iron fencing, I prepare to make my second crossbow.

I have made only one simple, low power crossbow - very loosely based on the Skane artefact. This one will be a prototype for a better build some time in the future. This is just for fun - can I build it from odds and ends I find lying around or bought cheaply.
