Rich Homie Quan has been off the grid. After a three-year stretch in which he charted three solo tracks on the Hot 100-including the double-platinum hit "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)"-and formed the potent (and sorely missed) Rich Gang duo with Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan stepped into the shadows to retool his career. In the latest episode of MASS APPEAL's "Open Space," he tells why and how he did it.

"I was gone for a minute," says Rich Homie at the start of his interview. "I'm back, I'm focused and I'm here to stay." The differences with the Atlanta standout begin with his appearance. The half-red locks he donned in the "Flex" video in 2015 have been supplanted by a number-two caesar 'cut. As the interview progressed, Rich Homie got specific about how and why he was forced to make some major changes. "No one wants to tell you no, even when they know you're wrong," he says about his former circle. "And it's just not good for your brain, it's not good for your mind… It's not good for this business at all." He added, "I had to restructure my circle from top to bottom and find out everyone's cause."

Later, he discusses the origins of his relationship with Young Thug, which has been on-again, off-again since the release of Rich Gang's 'Tha Tour Pt. 1' mixtape. "We were in the studio every day, working on music," says Rich Homie, as he describes meeting Thug while the rapper was in middle school. "The first song I think we did was 'Get the Fuck Out My Face.'"
