The Agastheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Agastheeswarar Swamy and Shakti as Swarnambikai, located near Padi Flyover and Padi Saravana Stores in Villiwakkam.

It is a Centruies Old Temple in Villiwakkam, Chennai. Sage Agastheeswar Workshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple.

LEGEND: Two demons, Ilvalan and Vatapi, killed many innocent people. One of the demons used to take the shape of a fruit and the other used to offer it to some innocent passer-by and after he consumed it, the demon would come out by tearing his stomach.

They plan to apply the same Trick to Sage Agasthya. Knowing this Sage Agasthya consumed the fruit and simply rubbed his stomach saying Vathapi JeerNo bhava; literally may Vathapi be digested, while the other demon tries to bring his brother to life, but in vain, eventually bringing their treachery to end.

As a result the place came to be known as "Konnur" meaning “Place they were Killed”. Even now near by Main Road have the name Konnur Main Road.

Sage Agasthya worshipped Lord Shiva here for relief from the Brahmmahati dosha.

Angaraka Parihara Sthala
The Temple is also famous as a Mars – Angaraka Parihara Sthala. Planet Mars created a spring here and worshipped Lord Shiva for relief from a curse. This Temple is Famous for Dosha

This Temple also have Lord Valampuri Vinayaka and Nag Devas under the Neem and Peepal Tree near the Temple Pond and Lord Veerabadra have separate Shrine.
