Eight days after he died allegedly due to a "bullet injury" at the Khanauri Border between Punjab & Haryana on 21 February, slain farmer protester Shubhkaran Singh's body was cremated at his native village, Ballon, in Punjab's Bathinda on 29 February. Shubhkaran's family had earlier refused to cremate him, in protest of the Punjab Police "not registering an FIR" in the case. Thousands of farmers gathered at the Bathinda village to pay tribute to their slain 'martyr'.
