After a convincing win over South Africa in the T20I series opener the West Indies would be looking to produce another clinical performance when the two teams meet again in Jamaica on Sunday (May 26). In the first match of the series West Indies were put into bat by South Africa.

The hosts got off to a decent start before Johnson Charles lost his wicket to Ottniel Baartman in the 4th over. Skipper Brandon King and Kyle Mayers then put on a 76-run stand for the second wicket. King was the top-scorer for his side with a knock of 79 off 45. In a bid to accelerate Mayers (34 off 25) lost his wicket while looking to take down Gerald Coetzee.

Apart from Roston Chase (32 off 30) the middle-order fell like a pack of cards. None of the batters managed to reach double figures. Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo picked up three wickets apiece while Coetzee got a solitary wicket in his four-over spell. In response South Africa lost Quinton de Kock in the first over.

He smashed a boundary off the first ball of the innings but managed to edge the next ball to the wicketkeeper. Debutant Ryan Rickelton failed to make any impact and was stumped off the bowling of Roston Chase in the second over. Matthew Breetzke counter-attacked with a few boundaries but he too perished.

Trapped LBW by the other debutant Shamar Joseph. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie ran through the middle-order taking three wickets for 25 runs in a match-winning spell. Pacer Matthew Forde also picked up three wickets to derail the South African run chase. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 147 with Reeza Hendricks top-scoring for them with a knock of 87 off 51. Apart from Motie and Forde.

Obed McCoy Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph picked one wicket each as West Indies won the first match by 28 runs. Both teams could make a change in their respective playing XIs. Tabraiz Shamsi might replace Bjorn Fortuin for South Africa while Jason Holder might come in place of Fabian Allen for the hosts. Can the Proteas stage a comeback or will the West Indies get another win in the series?
