In 2020 like many of us reckoning with our purpose, I wondered when it was gonna happen for me. When would life get easier...more in harmony with how I wanted my day to day to be. I grinded. I hustled. I tasted envy of other people's success like blood in my mouth.
Why was I so unsatisfied? Truth is I was I straight up miserable...teeter tottering with despair. And for what?
I had played by the rules. I was a good person. Karma should be ubering here any minute. But things got worse. And worse. Ya know.
There was a lightbulb moment with my therapist that I hesitate to share. It might be cringy. I was banging my head on the wall...figuratively. And I said, I have worked so hard but I don't think I've ever worked hard at being Erin.
No wonder life feels unfulfilling. I'm working hard at not being myself. I had no authenticity, no integrity (read Martha Beck's book Way of Integrity). I failed being someone else. And a little voice inside (aka God) said, Let's let Erin try.
This became my mantra. If I was in the last third of my life, I want to let my truest light shine. I won't people please. I won't grovel. I will be unacceptable. I will make every decision based on what I want to be doing and the happiness I deserve.
Then Baby Vegan Fertilizer was born. That’s my freak flag. With a black cat on it.
No surprise I’m out on a limb. No one around. I’m holding this little piece of paper in my hand with this story for you. A story about a lot of things but also a story about me.
Being me is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I am compelled to invite you on your own journey. Disrupt. It’s gonna feel weird because few people do it. And you’re gonna find weird ass lanes and dark caves. This is uncharted territory. But I beseech you! Go find an empty but open road and travel it. This is where I landed. It’s pretty cool. I love you lots.
