The crowd behind him grew, murmuring, phones out, whispering his name like he was a myth walking.

Then the machine froze.

Not a glitch—**a message appeared on the screen.**

The casino lights flickered. The dragons curled around the borders of the screen, their eyes glowing a menacing red. A new prompt appeared:

And then the machine **spoke again**, in a voice that wasn’t digital at all:

“Are you certain, Brettski? Once chosen, the dragon does not give refunds.”

The screen went black.

And something behind him *breathed.*
