This is Nitika Thakur starting HP gk series in which we will cover hp geography, art and culture of Himachal Pradesh, administration of hp, ancient medivial and modern history of himachal Pradesh and districts profile of Himachal Pradesh.

As far as historical evidence has been able to reveal right up to Indian independence in 1947 kinnaur had been a part of rampur bushahar state. There is reference in famous Sanskrit classic amarkosh about many tribes and caste in India.

In mythologies the kinners are described as distinct race of demigods. the encyclopaedia of religion depicts the kinners with horse's head and kimpurusha with human body.
Kinnars is called as kannu by tibyan and also known as kurpa. In leh ladakh kinnars are known as Maon.

Kalidas has also made a mention of kinnars in his famous book Kumar sambhav .In vayu puran the kinners are said to be inhabitant of mahanand parvat.
Rampur bushahar become the birthplace of Lavi fair celebrated at the time of kaheri Singh.

From 7th to 10th century the kinner come under strong influence of Buddhism and bhoti language.
historical records of this state go back only up to the time of raja chatur Singh who is said to be 110 ruler of ruling dynasty of bushahar.

Most important ruler of bushahr riyasat was Kaheri Singh .he was said to be ajanbahu like Lord ram. He was accorded the title of chhatrapati by Mughal badshah aurangzeb. He also issued coin Tehla.

In Tibetan ladakhi Mughal war kaheri Singh help Tibet to emerge victorious. For this gesture of friendship he received hungering Valley from Tibet as a jagir.

During 1857 revolt shamsher Singh was the raja of bushahar riyasat who did not helped Britishers. In 1859 Dumh andolan held in bushahr riyasat.
Padam Singh was the last ruler of bushahr riyasat.
In 1948 bushahar become the part of chief commissioner province of Himachal Pradesh.
In 1960 kinnaur become the 6th district of Himachal Pradesh.
