Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has withdrawn from the Global AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, opting not to deliver his scheduled keynote address at Bharat Mandapam. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation stated that the decision followed 'careful consideration' to ensure the event's focus remained on its core priorities, while emphasizing its continued commitment to health and development goals in India. The withdrawal comes amid renewed global scrutiny following the release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, which reportedly mention Gates. Although Gates recently visited Andhra Pradesh to meet Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, reports suggest the central government sought to avoid controversy during the high-profile summit. The foundation was instead represented by Ankur Vora, President of the Africa and India offices. The summit, intended to showcase India's technological leadership, has faced several high-profile absences, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Despite the cancellation, the Gates Foundation maintains that it will continue its extensive philanthropic work across the country.
