In the 1990s, several actresses such as Cicely Tyson and Loretta Devine spoke out about Dorothy Dandridge's legacy and how she was a trailblazer for women of color in the film industry. When it came time to decide who was going to portray the icon in a biopic, the competition began for who was going to get their project completed first.
