Steffi and the DLD team are deeply saddened by Karen's passing.
"A true visionary, gone too soon" by Gary Marcus is a touching obituary well worth reading:

This talk features Karen Bakker, professor at the University of British Columbia, author and researcher of digital innovation and environmental governance, in conversation with Michael John Gorman, Founding Director of life science museum BIOTOPIA. Karen is on a mission to decode the sounds of animals and plants with the help of technology. Sounds that are beyond the scope of human hearing. Thanks to advances in bioacoustics, artificial Intelligence, and other digital technologies, Karen has been able to reveal sounds of nature in an unprecedented way – also documented in her book The Sounds of Life.

The DLD Conference channel features all talks held at past conferences and our digital format DLD Sync as well as the highlights of our events.
