Learn firsthand how valuable the TryEngineeringTogether eMentoring (virtual mentoring) program is for elementary students.

In this video, NYC 3rd grade teacher Lisa Hamlin discusses the value of the TryEngineeringTogether eMentoring (virtual mentoring) program for her elementary students.

Lisa shares that eMentors are valuable on many different levels.
Students are corresponding with adults and they are writing for a purpose, which motivates and excites them to write.

Students have a chance to ask questions of to the eMentors. Usually they would start out asking questions about the articles that were being read, but as elementary students are inquisitive, they then start to ask questions about everything. What makes a light bulb light up? What makes an elevator go up and down?

Lisa explains that she believes the most important thing is that through the TryEngineeringTogether program, the students learn that engineering is not just a subject that you learn in school. It is a career. It is something that people do and that there are so many different types of engineers.
As a result of the program, every year a bunch of Lisa’s students say that they would also like to be engineers when they grow up.

Lisa summarizes by saying that TryEngineeringTogether is a great program. That the students form a real bond with their mentors. And at the end of the year, the students are always sad to say goodbye.
