The Athens-Clarke County Police Department released footage showing Officer Taylor Saulters mowing down Timmy Patmon 23 who was wanted on a felony probation warrant in Athens on Friday. Saulters was canned Saturday.After hitting Patmon and knocking him to the ground Saulters and his partner Officer Hunter Blackmon who are both white handcuffed him as outraged residents surrounded the cops according to video. Patmon is black.You didnt have to hit that man like that a woman said.Tammy Brown Patmon thought the worst when she saw her son on the ground.I thought my son was dead she told WSB-TV. His arms are all marked up and hes limping when he walks.Patmon was taken to a local hospital for scrapes and bruises before being booked into Clarke County Jail. Hes charged with violating his probation and obstructing a law enforcement officer.Saulters was initially suspended but the police chief fired him after investigating and reviewing the footage.He graduated from the police academy less than a year ago and his father Capt. Jerry Saulters heads the departments criminal investigation division according to local reports.The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Georgia State Patrol have launched separate investigations into the incident.
