This week Schony747 is trackside in Melbourne's inner northern suburbs as Steamrail Victoria operate push pull steam trains with wooden E type passenger cars between Essendon and Flinders St Station on the Craigieburn Metro Line. Both steam engines A2 986 and D3 639 are well over 100 years old. This is D3 639s first mainline outing since 2017 and the only one scheduled for 2024.

It's certainly a change from the mainline country runs were are used to seeing.
