The GM X Body Story | An Evolution of Disaster

Описание к видео The GM X Body Story | An Evolution of Disaster

This is the tale of the infamous second generation of GM's X Body platform.

Introduced for the 1980 model year, the X Body nearly bankrupt GM due to major safety and quality defects.

Though sales were initially quite strong, it was soon clear that these cars were heavily flawed at launch. From dangerous braking system issues which led to multiple lawsuits, to structures that crumbled to pieces in even moderate collisions, X Body would never recover from its disastrous launch.

Many consider the term malaise to be perfectly represented by the X Body variants which consisted of the Chevrolet Citation, the Oldsmobile Omega, Pontiac Phoenix and the Buick Skylark. Citation would eventually be re-christened Citation II. Unsurprisingly, this did little to draw people back in to the showrooms.

It's always fun to explore bad cars, bad movies and look in awe at just how many bad decisions were made. I hope you enjoy.
