Mountain Biking Kingdom Trails VT

We finally made it to the top of Vermont to the famous Kingdom Trails. The entire town of East Burke is pretty much dedicated to Mountain biking. There are over 100 miles of trails that weave in and out of 60 different properties. How cool is that?

You may want to brush up on your French before you go as most of the riders we encountered were from Canada. I realized how much French I’d forgotten on this trip. Like pretty much all of it.

Here is the coveted Kingdom Trails Trail Map. The only thing it’s missing is the new trail called Where’s Davis? which we ride on the last day.

Day one didn’t start out so well. I put black shimano cleats on my new shoes so I didn’t pull out of them getting a little air. Well it turns out I couldn’t actually get out of them very well at all. I should’ve gone back to the van and swapped shoes, but I didn’t want to have to climb the road back up. Stupid decision. I fell trying to clip out and thought I broke my ankle. I couldn’t walk on it at all and had to use my bike as a crutch to climb back out.

Later that day I opted for beers instead of urgent care – because East Burke doesn’t HAVE an Urgent Care and I wasn’t going to the hospital unless I absolutely had to. – Enter Cari and Pete – Owners of the Hub bar and Village sports shop right in the middle of the Darling Hill trails. They checked me out and fixed me up so I was able to continue riding the next day. Good people. Good shop. Great view. Great beer. Thanks Cari and Pete!

On day 2 I wrapped my ankle, swapped my right pedal for a flat, put on a 5 ten, took some advil and went for it.

Day three began with a 4-ish mile climb straight up to Moose Alley. Most people shuttle each other back and forth here, but with my ankle situation, we decided splitting up wasn’t a good idea.

I thought Moose Alley was good because it was long and we didn’t have to stop and look at the map every mile, but the trail I REALLY liked on this loop was Farmer’s Junk. It was fast and flowy – but just like most of the trails here- the run was really short for the climbing time it took to get to it.

We took the new Where’s Davis? Trail to White School here. There was a lot of up and freshly dug dirt in here, so it wasn’t the best part of this day.

On the last day I tried to take some drone footage, but discovered my planned flight path was a no fly zone, so I literally ran out of batteries trying to find somewhere to fly this drone up there. Luckily that resulted in us finding a skills park to mess around on a bit before heading home.

Kingdom Trails was really fun, but unless you know the system, you’ll be stopping a lot to check your map the first time you visit. Everyone likes to list their favorite trails, so we’ll close here with ours. We liked Farmers Junk, Troll Stroll, and Kitchel the best.
