This shows a dashcam driver view of I-255 south from IL St. Hwy. 15 in Illinois to the I-55/I-270 junction on the Missouri side of the greater St. Louis metro area on 11/15/25. This trip involves crossing the Mississippi River which is the dividing line for the Missouri part of St. Louis and the Illinois part collectively known as St. Louis Metro East. Unlike most metro areas with beltways, at I-55 the same highway that was I-255 changes names to I-270 for through traffic continuing westbound and eventually north when I-270 curves north fairly soon after the I-55 junction. FYI, although I have driven across the Mississippi River on this road many times, I never noticed that the directional signs change from one side of the river to the other. On the IL side, I-255 is signed north and south whereas on the short Missouri segment from the river to I-55, it is signed east-west. Also, I just discovered that the section of I-255 in Missouri in this video was constructed about 20 years before the Illinois portion and originally carried traffic for U.S. 50.
