Market Edge: Alyansa Agrikultura’s Ernesto Ordonez is urging the government to junk proposals to lower the pork import tariffs saying this will only forego government revenues without solving the pork shortage. Ordonez estimates, for every 10% drop in the tariffs, that’s P5 billion additional earnings for importers. He adds, govt should instead invest in facilities to help local hog raisers repopulate and fight the African Swine Fever.
