In the last three years, anti-European Union sentiment has been rapidly growing in Germany, a trend visible with the rise of a party advocating for the country's departure from the organization. This party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), promotes positions such as Euroscepticism and German nationalism, raising a previously unthinkable question: the possibility of Germany leaving the European Union. Today, Germany is the largest economy in the bloc, with a GDP of $4 trillion and a population of 84 million, as well as being its largest financial contributor. Consequently, the shift in opinion among a segment of the German population creates significant uncertainty about the future of the European Union, especially amid post-pandemic economic recovery struggles and Europe's inability to compete with the United States and China. These factors, coupled with the rising cost of living in Germany and the ongoing migration crisis in Europe, have strengthened a more conservative and radical political movement, led by the AfD. This party views European integration as an economic burden and a threat to national sovereignty.
