The alphabet is something we use everyday, without even thinking about it. It is so easy to just talk, that we often forget what a gift our speech really is. But it is a gift, a gift from God. Like all His gifts, the ability to speak was given out of His generosity and love for us. And like other gifts, our speech can be taken away- for example, Zachariah, Elizabeth's husband, in the Bible was made mute for a while for his disbelief in the power of God to be able to give them a son in their old age. It just goes to show, that we really need to be grateful to God for all His gifts, even the ones we maybe don't think about as much, and that we need to use them wisely. Who, when they lovingly give a gift to someone, wants to see that someone abuse and misuse that gift for wrong doing? Well, sadly that is so with the gift of speech. We are meant to glorify God with all our gifts, including that of our speech, yet so many people use their voice to spread lies, say terrible things about other people, express disbelief in God and His love, and use His name in vain. So let us try to speak only the truth, and to ask for God's help in knowing how to use all our gifts in the best way, for His greater glory and to do good for other people too, and especially to be grateful to Him, for everything that He has done out of an immense love, for us.

Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for all the gifts You have freely given us; You didn't need to give them and we don't deserve them, but You gave them because You love us. Especially thank You for the gift of speech, which we use everyday for so many things. Help us to remember what a gift this ability is and to never take it for granted. And help us to always use our speech for good. Help us to never speak untruths and to use our voices for the good of others too. We aren't just supposed to not speak when we shouldn't, but to also speak up when things are hard too. Please give us the courage to speak up when we need to and to not be afraid of what other people may think. Let us always be grateful for this gift and all Your gifts, given out of Your great love. And please help us to use them all wisely, that they may give glory to You, help others, and help us to make it to Heaven one day to be happy with You forever without any end. Amen.
