Elon Musk has introduced five new features to Grok, positioning it in direct competition with existing AI models like ChatGPT.
The first feature, Memories, allows Grok to remember user preferences and context across conversations, offering more personalized and intelligent responses over time. However, this feature isn't entirely new, as both ChatGPT and Gemini already offer similar memory functions.
Grok also introduces Workspaces, which enables users to create custom spaces containing instructions, files, and conversations. This feature, while useful, is not groundbreaking, as it mirrors functionality available in Claude and ChatGPT.
Another addition is Grok Studio, a live, split-screen workspace that allows users to write code, format documents, and build browser games with instant feedback. While useful, this feature is not unique, as Claude’s Artifacts and ChatGPT’s Canvas offer comparable capabilities.
Document Integration is another key update, with Grok now supporting direct connections to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. ChatGPT has similar integrations, including with Microsoft OneDrive, and Claude extends its reach further by connecting to Google Drive, Google Calendar, Gmail, and GitHub.
Lastly, Grok’s Deeper Search is now included in the free tier, giving users access to real-time research and information without additional cost. This positions Grok ahead of ChatGPT’s free tier, where Deep Research functionality is not available.
While Grok may not be leading in all areas, it is clearly making strides toward closing the gaps with competitors like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
