Boat Neck Blouse Design Cutting Idea (Step-by-Step)

1. Fabric Preparation

Take blouse fabric of required length.

Fold the fabric double (2 layers) with lengthwise grain.

Keep the shoulder line on the fold side.

🔹 2. Measurement Marking

Use your standard blouse measurements:

Shoulder: 14

Front neck depth: 4"–5"

Back neck depth: 6"–8"

Neck width: 8"–9" (boat neck is wider)

Armhole: 7"–8"

Bust: As required

Length: As required

🔹 3. Neck Marking – Boat Shape

Front Side

1. On the fold, mark neck width 8–9 inches.


2. Mark depth 4 to 5 inches.


3. Join both points in a gentle curve (not too deep, slightly U-shaped but wide).



Back Side

1. Keep the same neck width (8–9 inches).


2. Depth 6–8 inches as per design.


3. Draw a soft U or V curve.

🔹 4. Shoulder & Armhole Marking

From the neck width line, mark ½ shoulder = 7 inches.

Drop shoulder by ½ inch.

Mark armhole length 7–8 inches.

Draw the armhole curve smoothly.

From top, mark bust point line and waistline.

On those lines mark:

¼ Bust measurement + 1 inch allowance

¼ Waist measurement + 1 inch allowance


Draw side seam joining bust to waist.

🔹 6. Cutting the Boat Neck

Carefully cut the outer body shape first.

For the neckline, fold again and cut smoothly following the drawn curve.

Ensure both sides come equal since boat neck must be even.

Boat neck looks neat only with proper finishing.

Cut facing/lining same as the front & back neck shape (2.5–3 inches wide).

Stitch side seams
