Immerse yourself with us in a world of snow and ice and discover all the animals in the "Eismeer" facility at Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg.

This modern Arctic Ocean facility is home to polar bears, walruses, fur seals, three species of penguins and various seabirds in more than five million liters of water and impressive rock formations. The Arctic and Antarctic animals can be observed both above and below water along the 750-metre-long visitor trail.

For more than 100 years, the Nordland Panorama at Hagenbeck Zoo was home to animals from the Arctic and Antarctic. Ever since the zoo opened in 1907, the characteristic rock has been as much a part of the park as the world-famous Africa Panorama. After more than a century, this unmistakable panorama was so dilapidated that the complex had to be demolished. In 2012, the 8,000 square meter Arctic Ocean was built on the same site, based on the historical model.
