This is the Success story of Arunachalam Muruganantham. The first man to ever wear a sanitary pad. The most inspiring part of his journey is he never went to college. Yet he is a succesful Entrepreneur.
Currently he is providing employement to rural women in TamilNadu.
In 1998, when Arunanchalam Muruganantham was relaxing, he saw his wife hiding something behind her. He asked whats that ?
She replied “Its none of your business”

He followed her and found that His wife is using that cloth as a Sanitary Napkin.
Arunachalam thought that cloth is so dirty, he wont even use it for cleaning his bike.

He asked why arent you using a factory made napkin. His wife responded, we will have to cut on our family milk budget. We cant afford it, those are very expensive.

So Arunachalam went to a medical shop and bought a napkin and started research.
As he was a workshop worker, by holding it he understood the weight of the napkin.

It is 10 Grams only. The cost of 10 gram cotton is 10 paisa back in 1998.
Then he thought the big companies are selling a product that cost 10paisa for 4 rupees.
He was pretty sure, he can make a low cost Napkin.

He worked for a few days and gave the product to her wife. HE asked for immidiately. Then she told he will have to wait, as it is a monthly thing. She gave feedback after a few weeks, said the napkin is just pathetic. And she will go back to using rag cloth.

He felt, He need more women volunteers as he cant wait for feedback for 10 days and it will take forever. He went to his sisters. Even they felt uncomfortable talking about their periods. Everytime he goes to his sisters, they call their brother’s wife and told her “to stop him from coming to them for this”

Then he thought he should contact medical college girls.
But then how can he ? Even normal guys couldn't approach girls.
Somehow he managed to get near girls.
Even the educated medical college girls are uncomfortable talking to him.
So he came up with feedback sheets, asking few questions.
He distributed them in a college. Then one day when he went to collect the feedback sheets. He saw 3 girls filling all the feedback sheets.
He realized he was fed false feedback and those girls are not reliable source of information.

He decided to test the napkins himself. He bought a triangle shaped underwear. Wore it himself. Rigged a rubber bladder with tube connection to the pad. He walked and pressed the bladder, a small dose of blood entered the pad.

Then he tried to acquire a used napkin instead of feedback or doing it himself. After much struggle he finally acquired a few used Napkin an continued research.

Months passed and the research went on. His wife sent him a divorce notice. His mom thought someone did black magic to his son.

He kept questioning why his napkin want working.

Nee sent the napkins to various labs across the country. They said inside we found cotton filament and cellulose substance.

He took the research further and made a risky move. He asked for used napkins from ladies.

He sat down with several used napkins in his room and his mother entered the room and saw his son with the used napkins. She thought he went totally and she too left him.

In the middle of this family drama, And resistance be eventually found the difference between factory made napkins and his napkin.
The factory made one using tree bark and flower extract.

To make the material, he need a plant that will cost him 3.5 crores.

As a workshop helper, with little experience be had. He made a low cost machine.

After 4 and half years research be made a machine in Low cost.

He sent the pads to IIT for evaluation. He learnt any patent rights, trying to get patent for his innovation.

During this time there was a competition happening at IIT madras. Best innovation did the betterment of society.

Without telling him, IIT added his into the competition. Our if 900+ entries, he won. Suddenly he got under the spot light.
