Au coeur de Yukonstyle on retrouve des êtres écorchés qui s'élancent vers un ailleurs lointain pour tenter d'engourdir leurs blessures, ou pour trouver un espace assez vaste pour contenir le vertige qu'ils ressentent, à l'image du Yukon dont la devise est « Larger than life ». Sarah Berthiaume donne voix à des jeunes en perte de repères, qui cherchent qui ils sont, des solitudes ébranlées, qui se retrouvent perdus dans un no man's land où il fait -45 degrés.

Dans ce Yukon imaginaire, à travers le choc de leurs rencontres improbables, surgit un peu d'humanité, un brin de tendresse, suscitant la résilience nécessaire pour supporter le froid et continuer leur chemin. Un lieu où se côtoient dialogues crus, monologues poétiques et narration, révélant des fragments d'humanité dans un environnement aride et implacable.

Sarah Berthiaume a « voulu des personnages écorchés, courageux, avides et fulgurants. Quatre solitudes qui se rassemblent, se consolent et s’aiment malgré elles, aux confluents de la vie et de la mort, au beau milieu d’un hiver qui n’en finit pas. »

Talisman porte le lyrisme francophone, le réalisme magique, la perspective tragicomique de Sarah, à la scène anglophone. Un texte important qui embrasse des sujets épineux.

At the heart of Yukonstyle we find people stripped of everything they know, flinging themselves into a distant elsewhere to try to numb their pain, or try to find a space large enough to contain the dizziness they feel, to match the Yukon landscape, whose motto is "Larger than life". Sarah Berthiaume gives voice to disoriented youth who are searching for their identity, to those shattered solitudes who find themselves lost in a no man's land where it is -45 degrees.

And in this imaginary Yukon, through the shock of their improbable encounters, emerges a little humanity and a hint of tenderness, which provide them with the resilience to get through the cold and continue their quest. A place where primal dialogues meet poetic monologues, and narrations reveal the fragments of humanity in an arid and unforgiving environment.

Sarah, the author, states: "... I wanted raw, brave, avid and dazzling characters. Four solitudes that come together, console and love each other despite themselves, the confluence of life and death in the middle of a winter that never ends.” Talisman is excited to bring the framework of Sarah’s francophone lyricism, her magic-realist, tragi-comic perspective to the English stage. This is an important play that embraces thorny topics.
