We have made 200 journeys to the edge of space with balloons.
Some are for developing hardware, some carry student payloads, nearly all have a commercial aspect to pay for it all. And some missions are purely to explore, to get out there and see for ourselves.
How do you do this beyond the obvious that we fly on balloons, what the secret, the trick.
Our secret come down to just a few things.
The first is repetition. Fly over and over again. This builds the skill of you and your team. Once you get the technique down real exploration begins.
Next: Focus on your team. They are what will drive you forward.
Build the funding into every flight. If you can’t pay for the mission you can’t fly.
Next: Make Safety at strategic part of your operation. The first time you shut a whole mission down over safety issue is when you are truly ready to play in the big leagues.
And lastly, Use a checklist. Never go to space without it.
That is really what there is to it. The rest it just the details.
