"They would not remain just customers, they would become my friends and family. They are really like friends. All my customers are like my friends. My samosas (are famous in) Canada, Vancouver, Paris and everywhere, Scotland, Newcastle, Birmingham. They all love my samosas."

"In the past our traditional flavours of samosas have always been so popular during Christmas gatherings. So, this time we were like, 'what can we do different with Big Mum's Samosas?' and we took traditional Christmas flavours, and we put it in our pastry and why not? Our pastry is so special, and who wouldn't want something - a roast dinner or a mince pie in something so delicate and crunchy, so that's how we came about with our Christmas menus. We know that the fillings that we put in whether they're traditional or not so traditional, they still make everyone smile."

STORYLINE:
In Hounslow, London, Sushma Rani Makol, otherwise known simply as "Big Mum", has built a reputation in her community for her hand-made samosas.

Since moving to the UK from India in 1967, she continues her tradition of giving back, delivering free samosas to local businesses she’s supported for years.

Her samosa business, Big Mum's Samosas, has grown into a multigenerational, family-run operation.

What started as an idea presented to her by family members during the 2020 pandemic lockdown has evolved into a nationwide samosa delivery operation, offering hand-made, gourmet samosas across the UK.

Each box is carefully prepared with a focus on quality and tradition.

The secret to the success of Big Mum’s Samosas lies in their signature pastry.

In addition to traditional samosas, Big Mum’s Samosas has introduced limited-edition festive flavours, including roast turkey and stuffing and mince pie, as the business continues to innovate while staying true to its roots.

Makol demonstrates how to fill and seal the perfect samosa.

Since starting in 2020, the business has picked up a growing social media following, with its quirky fillings and home delivery service grabbing attention.

The business now involves multiple generations of the Makol family, working together daily to meet the demand for their hand-made samosas. 'Big Mum' is now retired and the business is entirely run by her grandchildren.

Big Mum's granddaughter, Esha, helped set up the business in 2020.

The business is still a family affair, with three generations now working together to create samosas that remain true to Big Mum’s original recipes while adapting to modern tastes.
