I am so excited to finally share with you this first episode of my brand new series, where I’ll be building a 009 model railway inside a suitcase! This is the first 009 layout I’ve ever built and I’m hoping some of the knowledge I’ve picked up over the last few years working in 00 Gauge will help me but honestly this is a bit of a step into the unknown.

However, a few years ago I visited a lot of the Welsh narrow gauge railways such as the Ffestiniog, the Welsh Highland Railway, the Talyllyn Railway (to name just a few!) and I came away from that trip with a renewed love for all things narrow gauge. Ever since then I’ve been wanting to build a Welsh themed 009 narrow gauge railway and with the range of 009 products from PECO, Bachmann, Heljan and others only growing, now seemed like a great to make a start.

To make things even more challenging though I’m attempting to build this entire layout inside a suitcase! I’m somewhat short on space so any new model railways I build have to be small and with narrow gauge being known for it’s sharp curves it seemed like a great combination. But will I still be able to create an interesting layout with such minimal space? Well you’ll have to watch the series to find out!
