Post gastrointestinal surgery like appendix surgery, I would not advise you to have more sugar in the diet in the form of chocolates or chewing gums in the diet because it may not be directly related to the surgery. But too much sugar may cause the foods to pass into the large intestine very soon leading to diarrhea like situation. You should avoid the fatty foods also because fats are very heavy to digest. So immediately after surgery if you have too much fatty food it would be very difficult to digest like spicy foods, fried foods, fatty foods, cheese, whole milk, and also to avoid fat and sugary foods like chocolates or cakes, pastries, beverages and drinks would not be advised Post gastrointestinal surgery. You may ease on more healthy diet like whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds because they have more fiber content like salads and fruits. Fiber helps in your digestive system for proper digestion. So eat more fiber rich foods and more of nutritious well balanced diet. So stay healthy.
