How to Install Coilovers on an Astra H/MK5

The tools you need;
e20 socket
e18 socket
breaker bar
18mm socket
18mm spanner
flat head screw driver
impact gun (highly recommended)
mole/vice grips
spring compressors
jack
jackstands

This install on paper is very easy; but on a car which is ten years old, the bolts make this job very difficult. The hardest part of the install was removing the strut nut, these were rust welding onto the rod and it whole nut spun when trying to remove (this is a very common problem on these), we used mole grips to grip to to the strut. This method worked for the first strut and it broke the nut loose. Although, if it no where near enough to work for the second.

The second strut required 2 mole grips, and 2 huge(4 foot wrenches) gripping the strut while we stood on the ends for extra leverage (still kept spinning). Then we used a hammer with a socket to try and shock the strut, eventually the breaker bar loosened it off!

The car looks class now, the ride height is horrendous but hey, sacrifices have got to be made!

These coilovers were cheap, they were 150 GBP, these were coilovers which didnt include the top mount.

IN FUTURE; i will definitely spend a little bit more on coilovers which DO INCLUDE the top mount because for the sake of a little extra money, the effort of today could have been totally avoided.
