The U.S. Army would place an order for M16 rifles in late 1963, and designated it as the XM16E1. The XM in XM16E1 stands for experimental, but the Army would still mass issue this rifle to troops deployed in Vietnam. There were a lot of lessons learned with the XM16E1, and after the changes were made, the Army finally adopted what would be known as the M16A1. I call this clone a M16A1 clone though it does have features of the earlier XM16E1. I have another kit on order and I am hoping to make the parts correct for a XM16E1. What I really need is a proper retro lower receiver.
