Cold River Soapworks (https://www.coldriversoapworks.com/) is an artisan based out of ​Baldwinsville, NY. The company makes shaving soap, aftershave and bath soap. The company prides itself on delivery high quality shaving soap that is made in small batch format and remains free of synthetic detergents and contain no artificial preservatives. Springtime LE was released on April 6, 2018 and is not currently available due to it’s seasonal nature. While CRSW is not among the most featured artisans in “shaves of the day” across all platforms, Cold River Soapworks has a deep following on the Shave Nook (http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?t.... Unless I missed something in my Google search, it appears the products are only sold direct through the company’s website.

2018 Springtime LE is a complex scent featuring aromas of greens, citrus, earth, rosemary and wood. The scent is dominated by a vetiver that is complemented by smells of petrichor, zesty lemon and herbal rosemary. It feels like there is a backdrop of oakmoss that balances the entire scent out. The scent evokes the thought of spring time when the earth is damp and the vegetation begins to come out of it’s winter slumber. This scent is a casual wear based on it’s predominantly earthy and damp presentation and it is ideally suited for spring or early fall in my opinion. Scent strength is mid off the sample I have and remains mid throughout the entire shave. Scents with a similar presentiment are: Mickey Lee Soapworks Réunion and Shannon's Soaps Haymarket Vetiver.

Cold River Soapworks Select soap base is used for this offering. The soap base represents their animal fat soap base offering. Ingredients are listed as: Organic Beef Tallow (Pasture Raised), Stearic Acid, Organic Goat Milk, Castor Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Kokum Butter, Potassium Hydroxide, Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Apricot Kernel Oil, Fragrance, Avocado Oil, Lanolin, Kaolin Clay, Citric Acid, Sodium Lactate, Tussah Silk. The soap is on the softer side of mid and requires a normal amount of hydration to ensure proper lather consistency. When dialed in the lather will resemble crème fraîche. Surprisingly, the primary slickness of this base is just good, despite its high sheen. Residual slickness is the same and care is needed to move the blade over spots where no visible lather is present. Exactly opposite is the post shave. It is excellent and provides deep hydration to the skin long after the shave. Given my experience with the Select soap base, the ShaveScore it receives is an 86.
