That vote of confidence came from Detroit Pistons president Tom Wilson after signing Oliver Miller to a four-year $10 million offer sheet prior to the 1994-95 season. Miller went on to start 22 games for the Pistons, averaging 8.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. His season high point may have come on March 25, when he scored 18 points and tipped in the game-winner with 2.9 seconds left in a 104-103 win over the Boston Celtics.

Following his lone season in Detroit, Miller was selected by the Toronto Raptors in the 1995 Expansion Draft. Miller started 72 games in Toronto's inaugural season, averaging 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in the productive season of his career. The Raptors, coached by former Detroit Pistons assistant Brendan Malone, finished their first season 21-61.
