A couple anime seasons back we were blessed with a show that I’m just now watching with my friends, about a pair of survivors in a post apocalyptic world filled with large creatures that have many different shapes and powers, as they try journey all over the country to reach a location called Heaven. The series follows Maru and Kiruko who’ve learned to take down the giant monsters known as Hiruko, with Kiruko wielding her own special laser that only holds 4 shots, and Maru holding the ability to enter a monster’s body with a spectral hand to crush their heart. This series which seems simple in the beginning has layers and layers of mystery and side stories moving ontop of the main narrative which is told with really great animation that stays pleasantly consistent and visually pleasing the whole way through the anime’s short 13 episode run, so check out Heavenly Delusion and let me know if it sneaks into your anime of the year list, an entire year too late.
