How to Tame Your Bearded Dragon and Build Trust - In-Depth Step-by-Step Guide

Описание к видео How to Tame Your Bearded Dragon and Build Trust - In-Depth Step-by-Step Guide

In this video I go through 9 steps to help you tame your bearded dragon and build trust with them (All photos/videos included in this video are my own).

I used these strategies with my bearded dragon, and I use them with pretty much all of my animals including my blue tongue skink and Guinea Pigs. The steps I provide are focussed on keeping you feeling comfortable, and respecting your bearded dragon while helping it to build confidence and trust in you, which benefits both you and your bearded dragon.

In short, the steps are:

1. Know/understand your beardies behaviour - you want to know the difference between "yellow zone" (when they are alert but open to new experience), versus "red zone" when they are fearing for their life.
2. Let them settle in and explore their new enclosure. Give them their safe place.
3. Get them accustomed to your presence. Hang around the cage and avoid loud/rapid movements.
4. Create a positive association with your presence so that to your bearded dragon you = good things. Food is great for this!
5. Always try to end your interactions with your bearded dragon on a positive note, or at least not in red zone.
6. Balance a healthy amount of fear with progress. You will generally need to prove to your bearded dragon that they don't need to fear you. Some bearded dragons are braver than others, but this will at times involve a little discomfort on their part.
7. Start handling them as soon as possible - regularly and consistently only to the point they will tolerate and show curiosity, without showing signs of agitation or stress.
8. Get them out at night time when they are calm and sleepy. This tip is great if you can't get to the point of handling them in the middle of the day, or if you're feeling afraid to pick them up.
9. Let them roam outside of their enclosure near you in a controlled space where they can choose to hang around you. Avoid chasing them.

I hope you find these tips to be helpful and I wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness with your bearded dragon!
