In 1991, American conservationists Liza Gadsby and Peter Jenkins established the Drill Rehabilitation and Breeding Center (DRBC), also known as Drill Ranch, in Cross River State, Nigeria. This pioneering initiative became the region's first primate rehabilitation project, focusing on rescuing drill monkeys and chimpanzees from the illegal wildlife trade.

Over the past three decades, the center has successfully rehabilitated over 75 drills, leading to more than 250 births among rehabilitated wild-born parents and their offspring. This achievement positions Drill Ranch as the world's most successful captive breeding program for an endangered primate.

The project is managed by Pandrillus, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to wildlife conservation through habitat protection, research, education, and community engagement. Their efforts play a crucial role in preserving some of the world's most endangered species.
