Adjusting the air gap on the compressor for my newly purchased Olds Cutlass Ciera Coupe. The compressor is very worn and noisy, but you get the idea about the adjustment of the clutch. Symptom of too-wide air gap is; the compressor works intermittently, delayed engagement, or no engagement. Pressing the clutch manually with a tool will engage it.

Harrison HR6 / DA6 compressor shown. All General Motors similar.
