1943 Austin Tilly from "633 Squadron"

This is a quick look at my recently acquired Austin 10 Light Utility military 2X4 truck from 1943. After leaving military service in 1958, it was purchased by Cyril Groombridge, a chap that supplied military vehicles to the movie industry, and legend has it that this is 1 of 2 Tilly's that were used in the 1963 Movie "633 Squadron". We dont know which vehicle is which, although the other one also survives. It left the Country for a while and had a ground up restoration back in the mid 90s, but is now in need of some tidying up and the correct colour applying, before the show season starts next year. I said the stars were invasion I meant to say Allied Identification stars, these were used from 1944. British soft skinned vehicles were painted colours of brown after 1940 due to a shortage of the mineral that makes green pigment supposedly, and I have a few printouts of the War Dept colour recommendations to guide me. It had a completely rebuilt "A Series" 1300 engine fitted along the way which runs very well, and with electronic ignition, it starts very easily as well, so apart from fluid changes and some cosmetic work, wont need anything done to it at all. The 4 speed gearbox is from a Morris Marina, and the rear diff is from an Austin A40 Somerset, so the drive ratio will drop the revs to allow a better cruising speed and better fuel economy.
