ESMA Public Hearing on CP on funds' names

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) held an open hearing for its Consultation Paper on ESG or sustainability-related terms in funds’ names on 23 January 2023.

The open hearing provided an opportunity for stakeholders to hear more about ESMA’s consultation paper and to ask questions to ESMA staff related to the consultation. During the open hearing the following topics were addressed:
- the rationale leading to this initiative, from the supervisory briefing on funds’ names to the proposed Guidelines;
- the proportion of investments for funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms (the thresholds);
- additional recommendations proposed for funds using ESG or sustainability-related terms in their names;
- feedback from stakeholders on the consultation paper.
