Hello, groomers.

This is Jessie with Sharp Edges in Oklahoma.

And today I wanted to talk about maintaining your dryers.

Specifically, how can you tell when your dryer needs serviced? Well, first indication is if your filter looks like this new filter, very, very old filter, and if you'll take this one off.

What happens when your filter gets this dirty?

It's no longer stopping the hair from getting through.

And the hair builds up in here and in here. It is a mistake to use two air filters on this dryer. You should either use the internal or the external air filter, never both.

My suggestion is that when you use these filters, they should be cleaned every day.

Take your forced air dryer. I happen to have an air compressor.

And blow it off.

Blow the excess hair and dander off every day and replace it once a month. They cost $7. It's worth it. Replace it once a month because even though it may still have foam on it, the pores get bigger on the foam as time goes on and allows more dandered hair to get through.

Clean every day.

Replace once a month from the front.

Another indication that your dryer needs service is when you see this dust piling up and shooting back in little patterns like this.

This means that the seal on here is probably dried and cracked, so it's allowing air to escape through the back when it's black like this. When the dust is black like this, it also means that your brushes are about wore out.

So this is carbon dust that you're seeing here. Sometimes you'll see this dust and it won't be black, it'll be white. And that means that excess hair and dander getting through.

That means two things.

That your filter is bad because excess dander is getting through, and that your seal is bad because the back pressure is blowing it out the back. And you'll see it when it's white there.

So this dryer definitely needs servicing.

And in a future video, I'm going to show you the step by step process of servicing this from changing the filter to changing the brushes and cleaning it out.
