It's the story of two youth gangs in New York in the 1950s fighting for the legacy in their neighborhood. The conflict, the poor conditions and the frustration over it lead to entanglements that end in a tragedy.

The fact that the »West Side Story« has become one of the most famous musicals in history is due to its literary model »Romeo and Juliet« and above all to the music of Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein is considered a crossover between classical, modern and the jazz of his time.

Es ist die Geschichte um zwei Jugendbanden im New York der 1950er Jahre, die um die Vorherschaft in ihrem Viertel kämpfen. Der Konflikt, die ärmlichen Verhältnisse und der Frust hierüber führen zu Verwicklungen, die als Tragödie enden.

Dass die »West Side Story« indes zu einem der berühmtesten Musicals der Geschichte wurde, ist ihrer literarischen Vorlage »Romeo und Julia« zu verdanken und vor allem der Musik von Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein gilt als Grenzgänger zwischen Klassik, Moderne und dem Jazz seiner Zeit.
