Holding a handstand is pretty easy. With The right preparation holding a 1 arm handstand is also rather doable. The problem lies in getting into the handstand. The moment between your feet leaving the floor and you getting full control of your handstand really is what’s difficult.

There are plenty of different options on how to get upside down. Depending on your experience with handstand training, strength and flexibility some mounts might be more suitable for you. Whilst some mounts might be easier than other ones and some might look more spectacular than others, all mounts come with their own specific difficulties and limiting points.

In this video we take a deep dive into 4 of the most typical handstand mounts. We analyze the kick up to handstand, tuck up to handstand, bent arm press and straddle press to handstand. Criteria taking into consideration are things such as pre requisite, available progressions, technical difficulty, consistency and more.

When looking at handstand mounts we have 2 different different types of mounts. There are dynamic and strength based mounts. Dynamic mounts come with a blind spot meaning you will lose control at some point throughout the mount. Strength based mounts like the press to handstand allow you to stay in control at all times but come with a much longer list of prerequisites.

When you are first training handstands focusing on mounts is a waste of time. Instead focus on improving your handstands in general. The better you get at holding and controlling your body upside down the easier your mounts become.
